more keyboard shortcuts

Hi,
I'm mainly using VLC to watch movies (what else), and hence I control it via remote control. However, only functions that are bound to a keyboard shortcut can be controlled via RC. Luckily, most of what I need is already there, except maybe more keyboard shortcuts for navigation - especially I would love to have a shortcut for "title menu" and one for "root menu" (one of them is already t here, but only one). Of course, ideally, there would be a keyboard shortcut for every function of VLC, then it would be totally flexible and almighty
But for now, I'd be really happy if I could jump only one level up instead of all the way back to the main menu. E.g. if I'm watching something in extras, I'd like to be able to jump back to the extras-menu by keystroke.
Thank you and regards

I would love to see some way of using my Cyberlink Remote Control to use with VLC. I know this remote I have came with my dell pc and their cyberlink software, but when i built my new pc, i was able to use my remote in WMP to Next, Back, Stop, Pause, Mute, Volume UP/Down and even control some DVD menu options, nothing major there, it was very crippled.
I was able to get my g15 keyboard to work by pressing those hotkeys in VLS settings, and it works like a charm. However the only thing my remote will control now is with the volume up and down (and think that is the main pc system volume, not the volume of wmp or vlc individually) below is a rough link to see which one i have if anyone is interested or think it would help in resolving my issues..

Thanks,

This is a great idea, there are quite a few features in VLC that could benefit from a hotkey.
Personally I'd like to see:
- cycle through video devices
- add a clone
- remove a clone
- toggle always on top

I agree, I currently use software that cost a few thousand dollars and these are the primary features that my company is paying for....
(I would love to see them incorporated into VLC!)
1. *Link Customizable Hotkeys to my created Bookmarks -Ex. create a bookmark labeled 'car scene' and link it to 'c' key etc, for live bookmark logging).
2. *Add Custom lead/lag times for that Hotkey (keyboard shortcut key) Ex. set hotkey bookmark to reference 2 sec. earlier and to last for 4 seconds -sort of in & out reference points that can later view.
3. *Each time a Hotkey was pressed, the resulting Bookmark created would be on a timeline (ex. the 'c' hotkey would in turn create a timeline of the movie that i could then look at an overview of every time i hit 'c' hotkey/bookmark and see where it occured during the movie and i could even click on the individual bookmarks to play those 6 sec.'s of movie or, i click on 'Cars' ('C' button hotkey timeline) to play all those particular marks (references) consecutively.
The idea here is to create hotkeys that bookmark multiple types of movie clips in a movie while I watch the movie...a sort of live logging. Then, without having to edit and create movie clips, i can merely click on whatever bookmarks i want and the single movie file jumps to that clip and plays those few seconds. Some hotkeys have set time for the clip, others i click to begin, then, when the scene ends, click hotkey again to end the reference. Thus, the entire scene as i see it is referenced.

1. you can set bookmarks and reassign the keys for the 12 bookmarks...
2. I don't get it.
3. Do you have a screenshot?

1. so i can create a bookmark, let's say "made 3pt baskets" (i am a basketball coach) and assign a hotkey just for that bookmark, let's say we assign the '3' key...then, everytime I see on the video someone make a 3pt basket i can hit 3 and it will bookmark it? (i.e. multiple uses for bookmark '3' with a hotkey assigned)??
2. in light of #1 above... now that i have my '3' key set to bookmark everytime i hit it, i would like to be able click on the bookmark to watch it...*ONLY NOW* here is the difference, rather than watch and let it keep running, i want to only watch a small clip, say 4 seconds or something. (this comes in handy for number 4. below) So i click to watch and it plays only the seconds i predetermined (customized to the hotkey -lead and lag times for that key). Ex. I create '3' hotkey with assigned 2 sec. lead time and 3 sec. lag time...this would mean, when i click see the 3pt occur, i click hotkey '3' and it bookmarks a clip reference for 5 sec. (starting video clip two seconds before the moment i hit the '3' bookmark and ending 3 seconds after i hit the '3' bookmark hotkey).
3. yes, i have a screenshots, but i don't know how to load them...i can email them if you want.
...also,
4. this is where we need make a timeline for every bookmark or assigned hotkey bookmark, rather. If i hit the '3' hotkey 15x during a video, then i see a timeline of the movie (basketball game) titled '3'...all 15 references (bookmarks) would then show up on that timeline. If i clicked on the title of that timeline ('3'), it would just play all 15 references consecutively. (all 3pt baskets in a row). If I had 4 bookmarks set to 4 hotkeys, there would be 4 small timelines, one on top of another, with the name of the bookmark.
I do have pictures...it is much more simple than I have described it, but I don't know how to post the pictures. can i email them??

3. Do you have a screenshot?
Here is a screenshot of the code window (this would be VLC's bookmark window where you would set hotkeys and lead or lag times (in/out points). Each button is fully customizable (color, hotkey, name etc.) and is nothing more than a bookmark. The buttons with a green diamond will need to be clicked two times...once to start the bookmark and once to close the bookmark. Red buttons are clicked one time and will stop according to the seconds/minutes you predetermine.
Here is a screenshot of the timelines that are made for each bookmark title. Ex. Notice the first yellow button 'Transition D'... the yellow timeline #17 is created titled 'Transistion D' as well and shows every time the button was clicked or hotkey was pushed. If you click on the #17, the whole timeline will play each clip consecutively. If you click on the individual marks on the timeline, it will play (and can be edited to add time or remove time if the clip isn't exactly what you want). These marks show 1 through 14 or whatever according to how many times they are pushed. (If i zoomed in at bottom of timeline, it would have room to display the numbers.
I hope that helps. I have one more picture if you would like with the video window, timeline window and bookmark window together.

What is the best keyboard (piano not computer) for a beginning music student? I am learning to play the piano, but the piano in my dorm is old and out of tune. I would like to get a keyboard so that I can keep it in my room. What are some of the best models, and are the lighted keyboards any good?
