HI there,

You might already have this. I have asked in other forums but either no reply or in one an "I'm not sure".

Can vlc see an attached multi channel external audio interface like a motu 828 mkII and have the user be able to route 5.1 or 7.1 audio encoding from dvds to the outputs of their choice? There are many audio recording programs that use these devices.

Thanks,

rwa

Which OS you are talking about?

HI there,

Thanks for the reply. I was thinking all three os. I have a motu that works with both my windows and mac and will hopefully soon work with my ubuntu.

Is it possible for vlc to see the multi-channel interface and allow for routing of a surround configuration.

thanks,

rwa

There isn't any routing options in VLC. But I assume that at least under Linux you can use tools that come with alsa or other sound engine to reroute your audio as you want. Under Windows it is little trickier because most high end recording/playback devices are split to multiple virtual devices, so VLC should support multi audio device playback first before fully free rerouting can be implemented to high end cards. I don't know how Mac audio is handled.
