old interface

I would like to request a feature to be able to natively use the
old interface on VLC. Ever since the new skin came out I have been using 0.8.6 since I wasn't having problems with it, but the bugs are becoming all too apparent. I really love VLC, but I absolutely HATE the new interface. Everything is so huge and bold, it looks horrible. I do realize I could just make/use a skin, but skins lack the full functionality of VLC.
I would absolutely love if this feature was implanted in one of the new versions, thank you for your time.
(sorry if this was requested/planned already, didn't find anything about it)

Can you detail what you don't like?

As the original thread starter hasn't answered yet, I thought I would reply, as I have similar concerns regarding the new interface.
I hope this won't offend anyone.
The following comments apply to me, I don't know how other people feel about them:
If the UI elements are anchored to the top-left of the window, they don't move around when opening a movie with a different size.
Monochrome icons and icons with a limited number of contrasting colours are easier to recognize. "Modern" full colour icons demand more attention to extract the basic information out of them. The basic information being e.g. the function hiding under a button with an icon. (Note, the VLC icons are not bad! I just prefer the old ones as they are even simpler).
Personally I also prefer the previous UI because it uses less space.
Previous Interface refers to v0.8.6 (wxWidgets Interface) under Windows XP
Current Interface refers to v0.9.6 under Windows XP

Thalic

You will be able to put the controls at the top of the movie again in 1.0
Same for smaller buttons (play button for example)
About the icons, well, some small contrasts are needed for black themes.

Hi,
I'm also still on 0.8.6, because the old wxWidgets interface is my favorite. It is thin, efficient, simple. So I would like the old interface back! If I want an eye-candy, I can use WMP or iTunes or something like that. But I just want a small, good program with support for nearly all formats and an interface that's easy to realise.
So, please bring back the old interface!
Thanks

Saying that the new interface has eye-candy is a bit exagerating... Moreover, it doesn't take more memory...

I am also still using v0.8.6b because I greatly prefer the old interface to the new one (also any release newer than this shows the player while in fullscreen mode if always on top is enabled).

No, 0.9 fixes this fullscreen behaviour.

That is good to know. You wouldn't by chance know of a way to use the old interface on 0.9.8a would you? If so, I think it is time for me to upgrade.

I don't think WX widget GUI is updated to match the core changes in 0.9.x, so there isn't any way.

Exactly, in 0.9 it was kind of usable... In 1.0, I really doubt.

My suggestion is why do you still want to go with old interface, as the new one comes up with lot of new features and facilities.

Because the new interface takes up way too much space. The old one was simple, took up little space, and gave me all the options I needed.

Sorry, I didn't mean to offend you. I did read your post and I was just pointing out why I preferred the old interface. Even if the old interface is gone for good, it would be nice to have an interface option that did not take up so much space.

So, yes, you indeed DON'T read my posts...
1.0 will let you change the interface and take it less space!
