Being able to mark point A then point B and loop from A to B would be the most useful feature imo

Or can this be done with an addon or something? I am using beta 1.0 on OS X 10.5.5

A-B loop is supported in VLC 0.9._ and later. CloudStalker forgets what hotkeys they are assigned to but it's in the Hotkeys Settings.

Also if you go to:
Tools >> Advanced Options

There will be an "A B" button shown on the main interface.

I realize this thread is over 2 years old, but... I can't seem to get AB loop functionality working and there is no Tools menu in this version of VLC (running on osx), I look under hot keys as well and can't see anything that would hint at being an A or B point... I'm running version 1.1.10.1 for mac. If anyone can offer any advice it would be greatly appreciated.

This is Linux/Win version.

The A-B loop only works for me occasionally. Usually, if i start it at,say 40% in the clip, and stop it at, say 80, it opens at about 8 - 16 percent, and only shows a few frames, over and over.

True for latest VCJ, under XP Pro and W7.

Another thought:

How come Bookmarks can store the time as displayed by the player but doesn't go back to the right place when you double-click the bookmarks? Seems like part of the same problem, it goes back about 7 seconds earlier on mine.

Surely this can't be too hard to sort out - just skip forward until the decoded times match?

Sorry to bang on about this but:

Not only does A-B Loop not work but neither does Bookmarks nor Control-t Go To time. They all work out the time wrong.

However when I look at the same video file in Avidemux and Gnome MPlayer they both give me the time exactly the same as VLC to within a second if I go to the same place in the video. So, it seems to me that VLC does know what the correct time in the video is and displays it at the bottom right corner and the problem is A-B, Bookmarks and Control-t not working it out right. To me this feels like a bug and one that could be solved quite easily.

9 months later, I've installed several updates since this has been posted, the most recent being today, and this problem still isn't fixed. Furthermore, the new installer for this program, since the last update, is total spam. I spent 15 minutes downloading 30 megabytes of an executable that only contained the data to install software I DIDN'T ask for, but when I tried to use it to install the software I DID ask for (which is another 20 megs), it had to download it to my computer. What the hell was in this installer then if not the program I asked for. At this point, having seen this post and knowing it has yet to be addressed, much less resolved, I've given up hope in VLC for anything other than trying to increase their means of squeezing cash out of their product instead of creating a reliable program and am moving on.

Just for those using a Mac and looking for this feature, I can see nowhere that shows buttons for a->b or any information that tells you this, but the menu item is at:

Playback==>"A->B Loop"

There is a hotkey set to Shift-Apple-L

What this means is that you can find a place you want to start (A) and hit "Shift-Apple-L" then move to the point where you want to stop (B) and hit again "Shift-Apple-L". That will set the A and B points and the loop will continue.

When you want it to stop, hit "Shift-Apple-L" one more time, and it will just continue one.

I see no indication in the interface that shows that a->b has been activated. But it works, at least on a Mac with VLC v 2.1.4.
