Animated Gif Screen Capture

Postby Superdemon » 22 Sep 2008 22:10

It would be very cool if VLC could make animated gifs out of video.
Ideally, it could have options for length, frame-rate, and resize/bit-depth... or just make it full quality, full frame-rate as long as you hold the button down and let people edit the gif afterwards.

IMHO it is better to just output BMP, PNG or JPEG from VLC and use external program to create GIF animations. And GIFs only support 256 colors, so you wouldn't get full quality GIF output on most cases even if VLC had GIF output.

the difficulty is in how tedious it is to do that. you can certainly get a higher quality gif if you want to really put the time into it, but a decent gif can be made from basic settings.

i guess there isnt much support for this idea, haha... oh well, i think itd be very convenient.

Just to offer a supporting opinion, support for *.GIF exportation would be great! Albeit there are already tools out there to create gifs, why not consider adding VLC as a new competitor on the field?

That would be a cool feature.
