Real Media Support in VLC?!

Dear Developers,
I'm new to the community, found VLC as I was searching for a player to play ALL Files on a Mac..In that regrad VLC is quite good, but since there i no support for Real Media Files, I cannot play e.g. the BBC iPlayer...
Is there any hope this might get included soon? Or do I have to rely on the crappy and intruding Real Player itself?
Thanks alot from a Non Pro!
Thomas

BBC iPlayer doesn't use Real media. BBC Radio Player does. Nightlies have better Real Media support, but it isn't complete Real Media support so it might work or not.

Another useful feature is integration of multimedia content from the BBC that was previously available only on computers running Microsoft Windows Media Player software. Under the 8.10 version of the operating system, some selected, high-quality streamed BBC content will be available free of charge to Ubuntu users through the built-in Totem Movie Player and Rhythmbox applications.

could that also be possible on VLC?

If the streams are public, then yes. You could just write LUA script that parses proper playlist.

Trying to play a Real Media .ram file, from the BBC, via a satellite in Central America, I found VLC would do it in short bursts, with silence in between. I wondered if this was down to a buffer size, so searched the web to see if I could find a How-To.
There is one for an earlier version of vlc but I can see nothing in version 0.9.4 to play with. If there is a setting, I'd be grateful for pointers on how to adjust it, or alternative instructions.

When you open the strean via VLC, tick Show more options and adjust Caching value.
