The mozilla plugin also works with firefox.

Under windows, you have to copy the files in C:\Program Files\VideoLAN\VLC\mozilla to \where\you\installed\firefox\plugins

I tried your method but either ff shows nothing or it simply closes (without an error message) for instance http://www.apple.com/trailers/paramount ... large.html
