Hi everyone, I need to change tune and/or speed of audio files for my work (I'm music teatcher, and for some singers, I need to transpose the file and/or change the speed)... Do you know a plugin for vlc to do that ?
As I work under xp and linux, I would use this wonderful player and not another (for windows, I used foobar).
Thanks for helping me !

I want this feature too....(If i am not mistaken) You can currently easily change the speed of playback BUT there is no audio then - you cant hear anything at the variable speeds. It would be great to integrate this into VLC. :)

I'm a choir instructor and wish vlc has this "transpose" feature. It is very difficult to teach children a song when the key is only +2 or -2 high/low. Thank you.

This is the sort of nonsense that the VLC Project Manager, who has limited human resources for development, is there to oppose and ignore.
Let us see how he does.

VLC already can cahnge speed and fix pitch, but I dn't know if you can resave it after.

And this would be the opposite, I guess... Changing pitch, without affecting speed. This would also be great with karaoke sessions (using the cd+g support in the nightly builds)

Is one of the FFmpeg filters already able to do this?

No, FFmpeg cannot.

But try to tweak the scaletempo plugin !

What exactly do you want?

the ability to transpose audio stream (pitch control)

You cannot now. You can accelerate and decelerate video and have a pitch correction, but that is it.

I too am looking for this ability. I know you can speed up an audio file and also increase the pitch as well as to keep the pitch the same if you like but I want a way to save the file.

I need to use VLC to convert an audio file to an increase in speed and keep the same pitch. My particular use case is there is a song I need to speed up so it isn't so slow, it is going to be used for some "hold music".

This would also be useful for batch converting an entire series of slow (and mundane) ebooks for playback on a portable audio player (Android, iPod, Zune, etc), sometimes eBooks just suck and the reader is not the author and very un-enthusiastic and you can feel it OR they just read so slow and it drives you crazy.

This would be an awesome feature!

Btw everyone, I downloaded Audacity and it was pretty straight forward to do this. Audacity > Effect > Change Tempo (this does speed and pitch) > Save > Done
