Hotkeys to full customize zoom and aspect-ratio

Hello everybody,

I'm a Media Player Classic and VLC Player user. There is a feature of the MPC that I would like it to be in the VLC: hotkeys to full customize zoom and aspect-ratio while playing.

I think it is a very useful feature and it could be easily implemented.

Fixed aspect-ratios button is appropriate if you have a 10-25 buttons TV remote control but if you have 200+ key combinations availables using only one button is a poor way to change zoom and video aspect.

The default keys in MPC are:
Zoom In : Numpad 9
Zoom Out : Numpad 1
Increase Width : Numpad 6
Decrease Width : Numpad 4
Increase Height : Numpad 8
Decrease Height : Numpad 2
Reset to original : Numpad 5

I found a related topic (Dec 2007):

I don't know about the zoom but you could use the hetkey "A" to cycle through aspect ratios while a video is playing ("C" hotkey to cycle through crop ratios).

Was that always there or is it for the newer version? For some reason I don't remember it. :?

To CloudStalker

That's not the feature I request :( .

A == Default / 16:10 / 16:9 / 1:1 / 2.21:1 / 4:3 / 5:4

What about other ratios? Do you think these 7 fixed options works for ALL the TVs, native resolutions and screens of the world?
I´m talking about free scaling (full custom). For example:

Zoom In (+2%) : Numpad 9
Zoom Out (-2%): Numpad 1
Increase Width (+2%): Numpad 6
Decrease Width (-2%): Numpad 4
Increase Height (+2%): Numpad 8
Decrease Height (-2%): Numpad 2
Reset to original : Numpad 5

You can try MPC to see that it is a very intuitive and useful way to adjust perfectly the video to the screen (always).

Z key doesn't work in fullscreen.

Moreover it cycles 1:4 / 1:2 / 1:1 / 2:1
What if I like a 150% , 132% or 176% zoom?

I´m talking about free scaling (for example every time you press the key, it increases/decreases zoom 2% ).
You can try BSPlayer or MPC to see this in action.

Don't know if this will help but you could go into the Preferences -> (tab) Interfaces -> Hotkeys settings. As you scroll down through that list you should see the hotkeys to crop or uncrop the video one pixel at a time. I think that this works similar to what you're looking for. If you don't see those options under that menu then it could be because I'm using a nightly build of VLC 0.9.0.

Default cropping of 16:9(10) does the job for me!
Thanks, this helps me viewing my video files that are in 16:9(:10), but are recorded from a 4:3 device (like my old VCR) without those annoying four black bars around; I get to view them (well, hardly distinguishable from, but very close to) fullscreen on my widescreen monitor. I suppose when appropriate, movies in 2,21:1-format will also be shown as wide as my screen (although with some black stuff top/bottom, but I can live with that. After all, DVD's with that AR have the same feature...)
