displaying subtitles on top of the video

Postby Marino » 15 Feb 2008 13:20

Hi,

i have several videos (mostly documentations) with already hard-subtitles underneath (non english). Now,displaying the english subs left, right or center doesnt help to get them to read.Could you add option displaying subs on top of the video?

there is another option, i dont if it helps

--sub-margin=<integer> Force subtitle position
You can use this option to place the
subtitles under the movie, instead of over
the movie. Try several positions.

You can also change the --sub-margin value in the Preferences. To do this go to:
Settings >> Preferences... >> Video >> Subtitles/OSD

And tick the "Advanced options" tickbox. Then change the "Force subtitles position" value and press "Save".

I think the integer value is the position vertically relative to the normal position in pixels. So try something like "-50" to lower them, or if you want them higher up (such as nearer the top of the video) try e.g. "400".

Ah - do you mean the black space that is not a part of the video? If so, no that is not possible yet since subtitles are overlayed over the video output only. In order to do it in the black space outside of the video region the video output module would need to completely reworked.

You can however simulate this by adding video padding (black bars) to the video. See this post:

Cheers, Arite.
