ALBUM ART - VLC should display extra metadata from audio

Well my point has been made clear, this would be nice to view in VLC

I thought it was already on VLC anway it is still something to be considered in a next release

Um...I didn't notice a place for album art in anything prior to VLC 0.9.0. Well slowly it's getting there. It wants to display album art but we'll have to give it some more time.

Any update if 'Album Art' will make the next release of VLC

1. I am noticing no album art shown in the QT4 interface which is in 'Media Information'

2. I thought that album art can be set to be shown on the main interface rather than a separate opened playlist Window ---> when I say main interface I mean like Windows Media Player (the little album art display at the side of the interface) - is there still time to implement this as a custom setting as oppose to the separate interface, I ask ?

I think it will only be displayed in the playlist...

Well I got it to show - I went to Preferences>Interface and under album art selected 'When Track Starts Playing'. However it seems like it being downloaded from some internet source rather than reading my embedded jpg file (inside my mp3). Can support for embedded art and still art from a folder (folder.jpg, cover.jpg) be supported also in a next/newer version?

Also the publisher id3 tag is not showing also for some mp3's which I have tagged the publisher field.

Will there be support for other formats that have id3 v2 and other types of tags too in the future?

Just wanted to chip in my two cents on this topic, and I registered just to do so. I was happy to see that VLC was displaying album art now; I'm a devout user, and I'm trying to make it my only media player. I have accumulated album art for just about every album I own. I would love to see VLC able to read the album art from either an embedded tag or folder.jpg. I have everything stored as folder.jpg for space's sake, but I can move to embedded tags if that makes life easier on someone =)

Im glad you agree with me.

Yes folder.jpg or cover.jpg and *.bmp *.png *.gif that would just sit in a folder full of music and be detected by VLC. Embedded art (id3 v2 , wma tags, ape tags) should also make it soon

I understand devlopers are busy with 'priority' implementations but this feature should still make it into VLC hopefully within one of the next few new releases

CloudStalker can see this as being useful for an idea he has. Me need some way of displaying a single album cover for mutiple subfolders.

I'm working on taglib support (so id3v3/APE/Xiph). So if you have some example of files with embeded image you're welcome.

Um... well... sure it's a title to something but VLC_help may still have to disguise the name, don't think it's in harmony with da rulz.

VLC_help: thanks for the samples. It seams that VLC is ablo to find the embeded image but can't draw it afterward .... strange. I will investigate ASAP.

Coldplay shared the latter track to everyone free as promo last spring from their homepage so it should be OK.

This should be doable in a few lines of lua (you can do album art fetcher scripts in lua! check the documentation)
