VLC custom output

Hi,

i'm not a newbie in the usage of VLC, but quite new in using the api. Is there or will be there a plan to offer some platform independent "render video into" an own memory allocator? At least with the ActiveX plugin it is possible to render the output into a custom windows under windows, but i miss one interface which can be used under several operating systems (from Linux over Windows up to Mac OS).
