FRAMELESS Playback Window, scaleable by MouseWheel, Snaping

Postby axel1973 » 25 Apr 2007 03:59

i am missing some fancy, intuitive UI features othter competitive media players do have since years now. i often use those features. i use windows version on vista ultimate now and i cant find any options yet to enable those well known features. here is my vision:

1. a mode to seperate controll interface from playback window (all in one yet! seems to be the only mode available beside fullscreen). so there should be a movable controll panel window and a ....

2. ... borderless video-playback window, resizable by mouse-wheel (increase, decrease window size). in fact there should be a boarder so we can resize it also the classic way by dragin with mouse pointer. however the playback window should not have any status- or head-line or a X. just a resizeable frame

3. video-playback frame should automaticly snap to desktop boarders when draging my mouse or resizing with mouse-wheel. it although should be able to drag the playback-window "off desktop" or "over the edge" of screen, but it first should "snap" at the borders and then while draging goes on release snap to go forward.

4. when VLC starts a video from the start (file) it automaticly sizes playback window yet. thats fine. but however it does not "snap" the playback window to desktop boarders and often places the window "over the edge" or "off screen" so a user needs to react after a fresh start so he can see the video. excuse me but that behavior sux :) - would love to see that it also will place the playback window "within" proper desktop ranges and not over the edge at start of a new video-file

5. another thing is strange in fullscreen mode. in windows vista version there is no control-panel. nothing at top, nothing at bottom. no reaction on mouse-movement or click (except double-click). there should be some kind of control panel within fullscreen when moving mouse or moving it to a special position e.g. the top screen or buttom. see MS mediaplayer

6. Easy pausing video in fullscreen by "single mouseclick" should be implemented. didnt found any option to enable that yet. within fullscreen mode a "single mouselick" anywhere on the playing video should pause the payback and resume on single-click.

so i request those missing features for the future version of VLC for windows and ASK community for feedback on these .

thanks for your attention and sorry for my bad english. im not a native english speaker :)
greets
Axel

I really like your ideas especially since they're similar to mine.

(1) I think this can be done if you use a skin and then switch to compact mode, unless I misunderstand what you're saying.

(2) You can do this by going to: Preferences > Video, (check the "Advanced options box) scroll all the way down and disable "Window decoration (this only works when the video window is not embedded into the interface via compact mode or wxWidgets interface).

(3) Already requested Snap Interface to Corners of Desktop
I even made a ticket.

By the way, the "default" skin (not the default interface that's installed with VLC) can snap to the corner of the desktop.

(4) Somewhat along those lines. Auto-center video window

(5) I hear it's being worked on (fullscreen controllers). Ever use Media player classic? Something like that would be nice.

(6) Thank you. now lets try to convince:  link
