Screen Capture Subtitles?

Hello everyone, I'm having a small issue with screen capturing.

Whenever I take a screencap of a video that has subtitles, the screencap is always taken as if they weren't there. I see how this could be a nice feature, but right now I -want- the subtitles in the picture, how can I do this?

This in fact depends on the video output used by VLC. (ie: if it's rendering the subtitles directly to your graphics card's memory or in some internal memory buffer)

So we can try to force it to use a video output that will make it possible to capture the subs.
What OS are you using?

I'm using Windows XP/SP2 on the box in question.

May I suggest FastStone Capture. It's very simple to use and it works exactly as you need it to. First, install the program, then go into VLC and disable "Overlay video output": Preferences > Video > "Overlay video output", select this button to capture a window:

You can resize the video any way you want (fullscreen, original size, what ever), then capture the window by selecting the button shown above and moving the mouse over the video window. Here's an example:

The text in this picture reminds me of me:

Just joking. :P
