Why use divx 3 instead of xvid when transcodeing?

Why is there no xvid codec support for transcoding? I mean xvid gives much better quality than div3 and still it's not nearly as resource hungry as h264. From what I understand ffmpeg has support for encoding xvid so vlc should be able to have it too.

that's what we use to stream WMP compatible streams (without needing to install extra codecs on the client computer). Of course you should use h264 if you can :)
