Browsing this forum i saw several people asking for a way to create a thumbnail from a video. The common answer was to use the image output, so there's a picture made periodicly. However this is not a solution because the lenght of the video is unknown. What we really need is a commandline item like this:

--thumbnail 0

Create a picture from the first videoframe (or second)

Internally this should set all parameters for the image output, goto the specfied frame. make the picture and quit the video.

Is there anyone that has time for this? I would expect some users would be happy...

If i'm wrong could anyone give me the answer on how to make a thumnnail?

Hi guys, have the answer

Code: Select all

vlc -V image --start-time 0 --stop-time 1 --image-out-format jpg --image-out-ratio 100 --image-out-prefix snap test.mpg vlc:quit
Don't know what this means? Search the forum with keyword Thumbnail and select the topic: How to create a thumbnail from a video

It explains all parameters
