AVCHD Playback

I would really like AVCHD playback as a feature in one of the next VLC players. Currently FFMPEG can't decode AVCHD files and I hope that might change in one of the future VLC players.

exists new inforamtions for playing AVCHD?
VLC crash if I try (sound is ok).
