That could be possible, but it would need developers.

That's good to hear. Ah ok and your the developer on this/ that's a a great leap forward in what your doing for supporting the best mobile OS out there (my opinion). Myself, I've had my eyes set on buying the upcomming Nokia N97 touchscreen S60 v5
But in your project your only supporting OS 7.0 (which is like S60 v2).
I wish you good luck on VLC for Symbian porject, you have all of our full support on this.
You don't mind if I quote:
Project Name MHSVLC
Project Start Date May 05 2009
Expected Finishing Date June 25 2009
Completed Steps _
Step 1 _Port Vlc Core Source Files
Step 2 98 Percent Modules ported to S60.
Core MHSVlc Engine has full features of VLC player like Streaming Encoding Decoding but being of no use to general users GUI will have all features hidden.
STEP 3 Compile CORE VLC_EXE application DONE
STEP 4 Compile LIBMAD for S60
STEP 5 SDL is used to drive Device's Hardware.
STEP 6 Compile ffmpeg for s60 with tweaks.
Upcoming Steps
STEP 7 Redesign GUI Module According To Mobile Requirement
STEP 8 Loadtesting and tweaking for best performance on S60
STEP 9 Releasing and Deciding **Stay polite ** of New VLC after its birth
Conclusions
Currently MHSVLC is capable of playing all the files which are supported by LIBMAD and after porting of FFMPEG it will be capable of playing Each and Every File Format.

You updated the page, your gonna include touchscreen S60 5th (ala Nokia 5800 etc), this is going to be awesome
Although your finsihing date is only an estimate I gather correctly
Project Name MHSVLC
Project Start Date May 05 2009
Expected Finishing Date June 25 2009
Project Description Reduce and Port VLC for use on Symbian OS >=7.0Including Series 60 5th ed.
mahaserver/manishi,
The name 'Mash VLC' would sound more cool than 'MHSVLC' just my opinion.
this might be of less relevance to you atm; but for the first version you could try to replicate the QT interface on this S60 version:
replicate the QT interface like this skin for the java midlet application; KD Player

It's just an idea for you when you start thinking about GUI for 240x320; that skin is juts a good copy of VLC's QT made for a java j2me player

What a brilliant idea! There are so many useless media players out for Symbian S60 that cost a lot of money - and actually don't even WORk when you buy them. .
I tried installing vlc.sis on my cellphone, but I got a message saying:
"Certificate Error. Contact the Application supplier."
I have a Samsung Omnia HD i8910 - S60 5th Edition.

First of all Congratulations !! to Pankaj and his team (Mahaserver). You guys has really done a great job developing VLC for symbian OS.
I've installed the application successfully on my nokia N79 (s60 3rd edition fp2). But don't know how to run audio or video with VLC as there is no GUI.
How to operate it ??
Please help me.

Keep up the good work guys - you've come such a long way in such a short time. I'm no dev, but eagerly looking forward to the beta. Cheers, Scott

This is a good idea especially since there seems to be no player for S60v3 that can stream WMV9.
But as far as I understand the player is only available as sourcecode yet and cannot play many formats right now, is it?

Hello everyone!
So it's March now and there's no update on the MHSVLC. Has anyone somekinda info on when the first release will come out? Even the homepage seems to kinda fail at the moment...

Forget it. It seems to be discontinued.
Well it is open source, anyone who can do it could still finish it, but I don't think that there is anyone working on it now.
