VU meter

A VU meter overlaid on the video would be great, so its possible to see if vlc receives audio.
I know that there are some audio visualizations filters, but they are displayed in a seperated window. Much better if it was displayed in the same window as the video.

Yes, i have been thinking about something like this lately, because VLC is used for monitoring Digital TV channels for instance. It seems like a handy and easy to implement feature, so we may add it.

A VU meter is a great idea. I use VLC to monitor Digital TV channels encoded as MPEG-4.

It would be even greater, if VLC also could execute an arbitrary command (a shell script) if a certain threshold was not reached within a specified time, eg. no audio or audio below N for X seconds.

VU meter?

I was wondering if there has been any further consideration of a VU meter, or bar graph feature without a second window open (or in my case, 4 more windows)? I also use VLC to monitor DTV and would love to have a useable indication of the audio for the 4-stream multi I keep an eye on.
Thanks! :)

we are also looking at this, would you prefer a vumeter for peak level , rms level or both ?

(By the way , we are thinking also on developing a new module in charge of silence detection (computing RMS and comparing to a threshold value) generating a SNMP trap.)

I thing both would be welcomed.

Silence detection is also a good idea, but not difficult to do with an audio_filter.

Hi all, I was looking for an overlay VU meter aswell too.

Since it's still a feature request, I was wondering, is there any possibility to get the current vu meter visualization overlayed on the video output? Or as an alternative, hide the vu meter window and get it's otuput through a handle or something ?
