Recording FreeTV

Hi. I use the VLC Media Player to watch FreeTV on a laptop. It's fantastic, far, far better than the Hauppage WinTV solution I used before.
I miss one feature only: recording TV onto the harddisk (to use the laptop as a VCR).
Unfortunately, I was not able to find any information on this subject: is there already such a possibility with the VLC Media Player, possibly using an additional software? if yes, how should I proceed? or is this feature unavailable? if yes, can it be added in the near future?
