Can i ask for some kind of the easiest feature for VLC.
i've just need to have an ability to freeze subtitles when video is paused.
Its just becase i can't read English very fast and I also need some time to translate new (for me) words.
That's all.
PS. Sorry for my terrible English =)

I would second that. When watching video files with soft subs, it would be nice to be able to pause it, if it is a long subtitle, or to catch the subtitle, and editorial notes.

the problem is that atm subtitles and OSD share the same backbone. And if we make subtitles "pauseable", then the OSD won't work as expected anymore. I atleast found the source of this issue, and will try to fix it in a future, release, but it might take me some time.

Thnx for that...
It will be great if you make this service for us.
PS. It would be nice if you fix it before the second season of Shakugan no Shana anime =))
