Press and hold for 2x playback for Desktop

Postby wilvlc » 01 Jul 2024 10:11

Youtube has this feature of being able to press and hold mouse button 1 or double tap on mobile to increase playback speed, upon releasing it returns to whatever the default is.

It looks like this feature is now available for VLC mobile, are there any plans for it to come to the Desktop? If not, can there be?

Thank you!

On desktop, you can change the speed with +/- or the dedicated widget.

Changing mouse behaviour in VLC is difficult because of the requirement to support DVD/BD menus. Also double-click is already used for toggling fullscreen, and it would very definitely infuriate a LOT of users if it changed.

That's fair enough, appreciate the response.

I wonder if I can just bind + to a button down, then - to button up and remap it to a specific key. I'll have a dig.

Thanks for the continued development on this amazing application.

All the best.
