Skip Silence / Dead Air in Videos and Audio

What would it take to add the capacity to skip/fast-forward through the dead air in videos / audio? I'm aware of apps like NewPipe (Android) and Skip Silence (Chromium) that do this but neither of them are written in C. I have heard there's an audacity extension that does this but I haven't used it

This would be a great feature for VLC, especially for downloaded podcasts.

Yes, I can't bear podcasts of youtubers those speak very fast but with long pauses. Increasing playback speed barely helps to save time and still understand the words.

Media players that use the ExoPlayer framework are able to skip silence. Some examples are Voice Audiobook Player and Just Video Player

It's unfortunate this feature is missing from VLC because it is a superior app in most respects, but for now I settle with multiple media players on my phone.

I think quite a few VLC users may be interested in this feature. How is it possible to bring it to the attention of the developers?
