Video snapshots without subtitles

This topic was already discussed in few topics on this forum, like here: https://forum.videolan.org/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=117007
But a solution like "switch subs off, then take snapshot and enable subtitles again" is just a workaround.
I need to take around 20-100 frames from 24-minute videos every day, that's why I really need a hotkey for that. There is one in MPC-HC and mpv, for example.
It becomes especially irritating when I find many topics like "snapshots are now being taken without subtitles" with answers like "oh, that's a bug, we'll fix it right away". Hey, thats's exactly what I wanted!

VLC media player 3.0.11 Vetinari
Subtitles / OSD
Settings related to On-Screen-Display, subtitles and "overlay subpictures"
On Screen Display
Enable sub-pictures - [enabling and disabling does not affect the display of soft subtitles in screenshots]
On Screen Display - on

Text rendering module:
  • Automatic
  • Freetype2 font tenderer
  • Dummy font renderer
[also tried all options with restarting the player - to no avail]
I watch almost all films with subtitles. And I always save several frames. The inability to make them without subtitles is for me a very big drawback of the player.

Bumping this thread—this feature is desperately needed. I would imagine it's not difficult to implement if a bug caused it to happen with one release. Can't it just be bound to a separate hotkey like with mpv? I'd use mpv more often, but it doesn't feel as streamlined as VLC does.
