Save custom equaliser settings to file + Load them from presets dropdown menu

It'd be awesome if I could save my custom equaliser settings to a file that when placed in the VLC Presets folder shows up in the dropdown menu along with the other equaliser presets enabling me to quick switch between them.



Regardless of if you decide to add this feature I want to slip in a quick thank you; your media player is the best by an insane margin. As you can probably tell I even use it for music because I find the equaliser is superior to other alternatives.

Yes!!, i totally agree with you

I have been using VLC player for approxx 10 years now
I was using it on windows, and now im using it on Linux

My Case Scenario for this Feature:

I created my own equaliser preset years ago
It was in fact me who made the suggestion to the current dev for VLC for Android to implement an option to have a sloping 'gradient' for the android VLC player
I prefer to have an increase over my frequency spectrum, the volume only ever goes up from Bass (left) to Treble (right)

However, i need at least 2 or 3 different levels of gradients depending on what the playback device is
Equaliser Preset Gradient 1: a strictly 'linear' increase of volume as i start at the 4th frequency along from the left (the 600Hz) one and incrementally work the volume up right up to the highest frequency 16KHz

Equaliser Preset Gradients 2 and 3 however cannot be a linear step due to the fact that i have 2 other devices which have their own audio characteristics

Audio Output devices I have:

1. Panasonic 32" TV/Monitor (Main PC desktop one)
2. Sony 40" TV/Monitor - In front of bed
3. Panasonic 5.1 Surround Sound Amp - Has a huge bass speaker

While all three devices do of course have their own built-in graphic equalliser, the built-in graphic equaliser on these devices is not so advanced as to have their own custom 'presets' with which you can choose from (unlike very modern equipment), as such to have to go into the on-screen menu of every device and hand manually go through each individual frequency spectrum and press the up/down remote control buttons per-frequency band for every different media type, wether it be video/music/podcasts etc etc every single time is very very laborious/time consuming,
(trust me it really is !)

For example, even though i have my bass on my Surround Sound Amp at a near minumum, the large bass speaker often presents far far too much volume at those
movie 'low frequency' effect times

This of course is especially true when i listen to 5.1 surround sound material like movies

Having a 'Custom Equaliser Name' to go along with our 'Custom Equaliser Preset' would be very very handy, it just makes it quick and easy to select the right
preset for the right type of media (movie/song/podcast) etc etc to go along with the type of hardware/audio output device one intends to use at the time.

It's Far easier to experiment around with the right presets for a given media type and device type, and then set it and then come back to that nicely named preset
when we need it - and then people can just leave their devices own bass/treble/equalisers alone (permanently fixed as they need) which makes things a lot easier & quicker

I use the Android VLC remote control app, its great for when Im on the bed watching movies on my 40" TV/Monitor, I intend to be able to create and select custom
graphic equaliser settings with it in the future, so Im wondering about a standard that the android VLC dev might be able to implement to achieve this!


Example of Custom Named Custom Pre-set Graphic Equaliser Settings:

Panasonic Monitor: 0.0 0.0 0.0 1.7 4.5 7.9 10.7 13.5 16.6 20.0
Sony Monitor: 02 04 06 08 10 12 14 16 18 20.0
Surround Amp :11 12 13 14 15 16 17 18 19 20.0

Please devs, implement this feature !

I also request this feature be added - seems to me that if the EQ module already had a drop-down with various (permanent) presets, how difficult could it be to add the functionality to also store a user-created preset or two ??

It already works with hardcoded custom profiles in the script. You can edit it to add more of them. You just have to enable VLC equalizer manually during playback. Saving/loading new profiles in a text file is not difficult to add. So far nobody has completed the script.
I think the feature will not be implemented in VLC 3, leaving the chance for future versions (VLC 4).

Totally agree. I was searching for it on the Windows version, being used to have it on Android.

On Windows one seems to be able to adapt (mess up ) the presets.
One also seems able to save without a name, though that doesn't actually work.
Messy.

Apparently there is no shared code base.

I suggest to create a more general solution for saving any groups of parameters as user presets.
