please! please! include close to system tray option to the upcoming version for windows (or all OSs)
I've been using VLC on Mac for several years, and when closing the window, VLC keeps playing in the background without disturbed was so very nice. I recently switch to windows and I found that I can only minimize VLC for it to keep playing in the background. I looked all over internet trying to find a solution, but there was simply none.
I know there's a major difference in the OS between Win and Mac, but it's so nice to have it stay in the system tray when close. Just like any other applications works in background, VLC should have that privilege as well.

Thanks to all the developers!

Click on the systray icon.
yeah, that would minimize VLC to system tray, but isn't it more complicated than win+down to minimize it?
close to system tray is such a peace of mind for music listening, and comes with minimum operations :)

I use VLC as a frontend for our audio media server with ubuntu.

This would be an excellent addition!!!! Thanks for considering it.

This is a must have feature.
Every app in systray does it, so everyone is used to click on the window close button and the app just closes the interface, not exiting. In VLC, everytime I do this in autopilot, the musics ends.... very discomfortable.

Cost/benefit is very favorable for such a small change in the code.

Hi, I just signed up to say that I can't believe how there is not an option to close to the taskbar without exiting.

I was hoping to find that using the preferences' search box after losing the playlist I just had made by clicking on the windows' close button

Spent several minutes until I realized the option didn't exist

Please add this :!:

How is this in any way necessary? Just use the Minimize button. Taskbar space isn't THAT precious.
