Proxy setting for network stream

Bonjour,

I would love to be able to set proxy settings when loading a network stream. The reason for this is to evade geo-blocking for each import.
Let me know what you think.

Aitte.

Depending on OS, VLC uses the proxy in system settings or in VLC preferences. Worksforme.

The reason this doesn't work for me is because I would import multiple streams from multiple sources, and each of them requires to be in a different country.

Then you need to run separate instances, just like with any other HTTP-capable software.

Alright, thank you.

I made some research, and have another idea: It would be awesome if VLC could support PAC files ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Proxy_auto-config )

PAC files works fine here. Not that I recommend them, as they can slow things down a lot.

Remi,

Proxy Setting in GUI Preferences is *missing* in Version 3.0.x. All I see is "Auto Reconnect" for Access Modules -> HTTP(S) and "Cookies Forwarding" for Access Modules -> HTTP
I would attach a screenshot to prove it if I could.

How to I set the proxy in the GUI? Also, how do I set it via text editor in vlcrc?

I have proxy settings under System > Configuration > Configuration > Network > Configuration > Proxy > Proxy Auto-Configuration URL. YMMV.

Thanks Remi for the quick reply.
Hmmm, my mileage is really varying here :-)
In VLC 3.0.6 (built from from source on Linux Mint 19 Cinnamon GUI [Ubuntu-based] ), I don't have "System" in the VLC menu bar, If you actually mean my whole system configuration,
my proxy environment variables for all other programs (http_proxy, https_proxy, etc. and their uppercase equivalents) are set in /etc/profile.d/proxy.sh , and work correctly for all other GUI programs. Shouldn't VLC pick up these environment variables as well?

VLC uses whatever libproxy picks up.
