Use Squirrel For Update Support

Can you consider using Squirrel for automated update management, once it’s been implemented it doesn’t need any configuration.

It will take care of automated updates in the back ground, without the users having to do anything and it works for both mac and windows.
Thanks

What is the benefit over the current system?

I feel the benefits would be a more stable update service because, the current system doesn’t always find updates unless you run it manually also, users must manually update vlc themselves.

Meaning that if a vulnerability were to be found then many users would be using older versions for some time, leaving them open to attack, this is the same for bugs although less serious.

Additionally, once Squirrel was implemented it would decrease work for developers because, Squirrel would take care of updates for VLC and its self without user interaction.

Also, if something brakes then it can be reported to and fixed by Squirrel developers instead of the VLC developers.

Uh, the current system checks for updates weekly, unless disabled.
