Hot key to cycle Source Aspect-Ratio

Postby chris_hubball » 29 Nov 2005 13:05

There's a menu option to change the aspect ratio of the source video, however I would like to do this via my remote control and hence would like a hot key that cycles through the common modes - 4:3, 16:9, 2.35:1 etc.

Thanks.

I've added that to our TODO list https://trac.videolan.org/vlc/ticket/442

I'll try to post a reply here once i've had time to add the hotkey (should be sometime soon since it's really easy to code)

i've added keys to cycle through aspect ratio, crop and deinterlace settings. They should be available in tonight's nightly build ( http://nightlies.videolan.org )

Hehe :) i though about that and wondered wether it was really needed (since you usually watch movies full screen). But if you really feel like there is a need for such a hotkey...

I've just tried the nightly build, dated 30th and I can't see an obvious HotKey Setting.

Have your changes not been built in yet or am I missing something?

Sorry, my fault! The Debian nightly build hasn't been updated since 27th. I've just downloaded the Win32 nightly and the new hot keys are there and work perfectly!

Thanks alot.

I've just updated to the nightly build and the aspect ratio hot key has stopped working properly.

When I press the hot-key, the OSD says "Aspect Ratio: (null)" instead of cycling the ratio.

From the menus, I can change the aspect ratio so I guess it's just the hot key that's got broken.

Did you make sure you still had a key assigned to it in the prefs?

The hotkey is configured correctly because I only get the OSD message when I press the key.

I've just updated to the nightly build "SVN20060109" and the problem still occurs.

I'm running Debian unstable and Xorg. The problem appears to occur when playing any video file.

Not sure if it's relevant, but I've changed my Video settings to:
Source Aspect Ratio: 16:9
Monitor Aspect Radio: 4:3

As I said before, the problem does seem very strange because the Aspect Ratio menu seems fine.

Let me know if you need any more info.

well, what happens if you don't set those options. I'm very curious.

Sorry for the delay in replying. I've done some experimenting with the Windows version and it all seems to be down the "Source Aspect Ratio setting".

If I leave it blank or set to 4:3 then everything works fine.
If I set it to 16:9, the cycle-aspect ratio key fails to work.

Now what is interesting is the Aspect Ratio menu. With source set to 4:3, I get a full list as normal, however with it set to 16:9 I get two 16:9 options! I think the 16:10 option has gone. Perhaps this is why it doesn't cycle because the next mode in the list is the same?

I think in my previous post I thought that this become broken recently, but now I think it's more likely I changed my source ratio setting as I had some problems with a few videos.
