Save current position on hotkey press

Postby hartwich » 13 Mar 2017 12:39

Requested feature: Ability to set multiple hotkeys which, when pressed, save the currently playing filename, position (time or frame, ideally both), and the hotkey that was pressed to a logfile.
Purpose: This allows for fast video editing like cutting, freezing frames or slow motion effects in combination with ffmpeg scripts.

I may be able to add this myself but I'd need to set up a working IDE that can compile vlc which would probably take weeks.

Lovely idea! I and many others have been trying to make the "Save Position" work using Qt menu etc but nothing works now although I think it did at one time a few years ago as there is even a Youtube video showing VLC playing, being closed and then restarting when opened!! Definitely does not work for me now as I lose the playlist anyway. Any suggestions please?

It seems what you want is a "resume playing where you closed/stopped previously" which is completely different from my request. I want to save certain positions with the respective trigger-keys to a logfile for processing the video later by some other program ( cutting / volume adjustments / applying some specific filter etc).
