Bring back this in unbuntu 16 read body

There used to be a button under preference that would let you pick what formats vlc will play for you on your computer its not on Ubuntu 16s copy of vlc I just your player on all my computers as my own media player your the best and i tell people to dump the one they have for you. But that was the part of vlc I told them to dump the other for so you can use vlc for every thing and its clean simple and easy.
But I want to ask you devs and staff and all the good people who bring this to us all can it be done?
