Media library database?

Where is the media library database saved, in Windows? I found a file called ml.xspf in my AppData\Roaming\vlc folder, but it doesn't appear to contain any options that are associated with video files. For instance, just to see if it would get saved, I used the extended settings to adjust the gamma on a video, closed VLC, reopened it, and the setting was remembered. The ml.xspf timestamp was bumped, but that setting was nowhere to be found in it. So where does this info get saved, if not there?

That leads to the next question: what settings are saved? Many aren't, and I see no rhyme or reason to the choices. I tried enabling de-interlacing on an NTSC video file, and that setting didn't get remembered. I tried forcing the aspect ratio (which lots of files get wrong), and that didn't get remembered. These are important settings that really should be remembered on a per-video basis.

The list of things I'd like to see remembered also include volume adjust, sync adjust, audio track choice, subtitle settings, gamma and color adjust, start and end time, cropping, bookmark (restart location), info link (e.g., to IMDb page), next file link (for videos that are broken into two or more files). (I guess a few of these are already implemented.) Also, it would be nice if manipulating any of these parameters on any file automatically added it to the library (or whatever database holds this info). If all these settings were saved, so that one could eventually watch one's entire video collection without ever having to twiddle obscure controls, that would make VLC a killer app. It would certainly kill MPC.
