It has been years since we asked for the "remember position" feature (remember where the movie was prior vlc shutdown). We received promises it would be part of the next version (from JB and others) ... This was more than 3 versions ago... We therefore decided to switch to the competition. We are a big state agency representing more than 9000 machines (mac mostly). Too bad. Best !

Same here. I now use and love GOM Player.

How RIDICULOUS is it really to have failed to address something so simple that GOM has been doing for YEARS. While at the same time adding exotic features that God-only-knows needs…

would only need to keep a list of filenames with position/timestamps when the file is closed and check if the name is on the list when opening a file. Could also use the recent items list for that it doesnt need to remember every file ever played..

I did this for free (consider me as a volunteer too ) !

PS : this remember position feature is working well but, quite often, an error occurs (when changing movies or moving within a movie run and closing/reopening) : "variable post process does not exist or is not handled".

VLC seems like a really great video player but I'm bouncing from it another year in the row because of absence of this absolutelly basic function. Is it really that hard to include this?

Nice way to elude the question ... The feature we request is "the reason why you have less and less people using VLC"... Think about it ... Why would I keep pushing while it would be much easier to switch to the competition ...
