Jolla / Sailfish port of VLC

Hi all,

A new smartphone came on the market since the end of december. Its name is Jolla ( htpp://jolla.com/ ). I wonder about the opportunity of VLC build on that terminal/OS. Characteristics are :
[*] Hardware : Qualcomm Dual Core 1.4GHz, Ample 4.5" IPS qHD (960x540) display
[*] OS : Sailfish OS (based on Mer project ie Meego-Reloaded)

But the main difficulty, I guess, should be : Graphical engine is running with Wayland and Qt5.

Hoping someone is going to be interested as, in the poast, for the N900 / Maemo5.

Mes meilleurs (best) regards,
TNZ

Well, the issue is that we cannot do a port per small-OS...

I like VLC and can use it in Jolla with Sailfish Android-version but I like more if we can get native version for Sailfish and plugin for Sailfish native prowser too couse Sailfis is open platform and not like Android. And I see this open code is base prinsiple for projects like VLC.

And I think Sailfish is not so small in future... I thing it's bigger than Windows in phones very sooon... :-)

Hi Jean-Baptiste,
I've just downloaded VLC Pro + for Android environment. It works well on my Jolla/SailfihOS.

Due to SandBox implementation of Dalvik VM on Sailfish, I must copy files to android directories. Are VLC Pro source files available to try a sailfish port with its wayland ?

News about Sailfish : A tablet is going to be distributed during may 2015. It could be a reason to try, couldn't it ?

VLC Pro is not VLC.

So, why a port for Tizen is available in this case?
I have my little idea: I can suppose that Samsung has lot of power (and money) oppositely to Jolla, the Finnish firm who develop Sailfish OS.

Sailfish users has for the majority the version Android of VLC on their devices but this same majority would like to have a native version.
I don't see where could be the problem for the developers to do it. SFOS is open-source and had the same philosophy* that VLC.

* we can get some doubts about the philosophy of VLC when we read the answers of the administrator on this post.
