Midi support again please!!!

Congratulations for this great player and great project. Thank's a lot.

However I am a bit disapointed with the removal of midi support.
I usually use VLC remotely from my tablet to play the files stored on my PC running Windows 7, and frequently also to have a midi acompaniment when playing my keyboard.
I'm aware of the problem with fluidsynth, however why not to pass the control to an external synthetizer like for instance the Coolsoft Virtual MidiSynth or other of ones choice, like in the KMPlayer? Alternatively why not use the BASS midi library like in the Aimp or Xmplay projects?

Thank's
Kind regards

Yeah, we're looking into ways to modernize and reintroduce fluidsynth to the contribs.

Yes please, this would be great if it could be brought back. I hadn't realized midi support was removed (because fluidsynth is broken?? But it was working fine in the previous versions... >_>) I'd hate to have to switch to another player just for midi support. VLC was my all-in-one for a long time. Kinda threw me off during a group project thing I was working on...

Anyway, good luck. I love VLC for it's being a huge codec pack in one (so I dont' have to download them individually myself) even if it doesn't play some tracker/vgm modules perfectly accurately all the time...

I hope .mid support can be brought back soon. Until then... wingroove... >_>

I also ran into this problem too to listen to my old school MID(I) music collections. I was able to get it to play in Mac OS X 10.8.5 with SoundFont files from https://wiki.videolan.org/Midi instructions. However, I couldn't in Windows XP Pro SP3 machine due to "No suitable decoder module: VLC does not support the audio or video format 'MIDI'. Unfortunately there is no way for you to fix this." error and missing FluidSynth audio codec settings. Why are Windows and Linux ports missing it? :(

Please bring it back. For now, I will use other Windows' music players like Winamp!

Yes please bring back the midi support! I was very pleased that I could download the proper package in Ubuntu to get midi support, but there's nothing I can do on windows. This one feature would make VLC my go to audio/music playback program. For now I will just use an older version that does support midi.
