video rotation in iOS

I would love to be able to apply the Video Geometry transform filters on an iOS device (iPhone 4s, iOS 7.0.4, VLC for iOS 2.3.1), specifically the ability to rotate video 90 degrees. This is for using the HDMI out to an external display.

Failing that, anyone know a non-jailbreak solution, outside of VLC?

It's a bit hard to do for now. Can't you just block the rotation?

Unfortunately, the issue is I want the rotation to happen on the external display. The HDMI output seems to be limited to landscape mode regardless of the device orientation, and in mirror mode (which doesn't seem accessible in the VLC for iOS anyway), the aspect ratio changes and letterboxing is applied when the device is in portrait orientation, but the top of the video frame is still forced to be the top of the external display.

OK, this requires code.
