MP4 Edit List

Hi,
I'm trying to trim some mp4-videos with Quicktime in Mac OS. These files include the h264-codec, so it's great to trim them this way, because a new encoding is not necessary anymore. BUT:
If I trim between two keyframes, Quicktime adds an EditListEntry into the mp4-file. So this should tell the player: Don't play the GOP-part before the cut. Quicktime itself plays those files great, but not VLC. There I'm getting worse artefacts.
Is this a bug or a missed feature? Any chance to add this option? Would be great, because it would make Software with 'Smart Rendering' obsolete.

Missing feature. But seriously, we are bored of implementing QuickTime undocumented extensions to the mp4 format.

Thanks for your answer!

Is this maybe the right documentation? https://developer.apple.com/library/mac ... 4-BBCCFBEF (search for Edit List Atoms)

To be fair, the MP4 Edit List Box is defined as part of ISO/IEC 14496-12 (the MP4/ISO base media file format specification).

I can't say if Apple is using it in strange ways. But DLNA CVP-2 requires its presence in some cases. (which is why I've stumbled into this thread...)
