Why VLC do not support spaces in the path to FTP files?

Postby STN » 13 Aug 2005 18:58

Example. File ftp://192.168.11.14/Kino/Chicken Run.avi do not play. I need change the path to ftp://192.168.11.14/Kino/Chicken%20Run.avi. Why? Automatization much better...

that's the way web addressing works. there wasn't support built into web addresses for spaces, so you have to use the %20 to work with files that has spaces in the names. there just isn't a work around for that, that i know of.

someone else who is more web versed than i am might be able to give you something more, but as far as i knew there wasn't a way around that.

A team-member (courmisch) recently implemented the automatic encoding of unsupported characters such as " ", etc. so you won't need this work-around in the forthcoming 0.8.4 release anymore.

@Techie_4Life: Your explanation is true and there's nothing to add.
