waveform scrubber control

Hi..
I've been using VLC for ages, very satisfied, thanks =)
I miss a certain feature tho. (Or i just had the thought..why is this not in VLC)
Ok, here goes: I'm used to work with waveforms in misc sound programs,
the fact that you can get a visual overview of the sound when you are "browsing" a track, is extremely usefull.
Where's the break.. where's the silent part.. where does the beat change.. all these thing, is very easy if you have the visual of the sound
I really think it would be very usefull to have this, but implemented as a way to navigate..
Basically your scrubber/playback bar turns into a waveform, with "click-to-go-to-time"-functionality ...
maybe you could even add "loop-area" by mouse-shift-selection (the loop feature already implemented in VLC, now just with UI =))
Curious to hear what you think of the idea?
Thanks!
