Extended codec info

Postby JeffG » 21 Jul 2012 00:22

Hi, I'd like to request the extended codec info shown in other programs (super etc) be added to VLC's Codec Information page. The info is very useful. Or maybe a plugin already exists to do this? Thanks.

I mean as much as possible from Super's extended (advanced analysis) codec screen (especially codec format tag info). Also a peak bitrate field would be very helpful. Thanks again!!

EDIT: add link

This is nothing else than a MediaInfo report.

It's adware. Know of something similar that isn't (and that doesn't require .NET)?

I know it's a lot of mostly unimportant info. If you could at least add the codec ID (e.g. 55 etc for MP3), peak bitrate and encoder info, that's really what I miss in VLC.

It's adware.
No it's not, just use the versions without installer.

Did you try VLC 2.1.0-git? It should have encoder info.

Thank you! Just tried and yes I see it. Any chance of getting codec id and peak bitrate too? Is peak bitrate info stored in file headers or does it have to be calculated?

Codec id is impossible to do, since there is no standard for that.
Peak bitrate, I doubt this is in the headers, but maybe I am wrong.

No offense meant by the question, but how do MPC (& several other players I can think of offhand) get codec IDs?

They use a Microsoft system that is not universal.

They use MediaInfo.dll.
