Auto play the next file in the same folder

I have used KM player for a while to watch some software tutorials. The reason was because km player starts the next movie file in the same folder as the last movie's folder. So It made it very easy to watch tutorials that usually are organized in many folders and in each folder there are like 6 to 10 movies. But km player doesn't seems stable to me and sometimes behaves weird. So I switched to VLC. I don't have those weird problems any more but I missed that auto playing next file feature.
I don't know if there is a option for it or not. I couldn't find in settings anything.
Is this feature considered to developed or does it already exist?
Thank you.

I would also like to request this feature, and there have been many others who have requested this previously.
It'd be great to have an option in the settings to play the next file in folder sequentially by filename.
Others have said that this feature isn't necessary, because it's simple to just add a whole directory or open the folder.
I guess it's easy if you're using a standard desk interface, but I use VLC in my media machine, using a remote to open files. When the video ends I have to navigate to the next file with my remote all over again. It would be ideal if the next would simply play in sequence.
StreamToMe on my ipad automatically plays the next video in the folder by filename, which is great.
Anyway, VLC is a brilliant player, I would just like to humbly add my voice to the chorus to have this feature and make it the perfect player for all occasions.
PS. extensions like "Add Similar" or "Add Similar with Sort" don't really address this feature.
PPS. below are the previous requests I found with some quick googlage.

How so?

Thanks for your reply. I hope they add this feature soon. I hear a lot that vlc is a great player and it's open-source. But I don't know Y open-source products always forget simple things and focus on more sophisticated stuff. I have a great respect for open-source and vlc but I had to switch to a player to do what I want. I tried a couple of players. I had been using km player before vlc, it has the feature I'm looking for, but it has some bugs on it and doesn't seem stable. then I tried to vlc and found this problem. After all, I'm using GOM player. I has this feature but you have to activate it on settings which is not good. I want it to a default setting so people will know it has this feature and if they wanted they go to settings to diactivate it.
Beside this, km player and Gom player have these nice hotkeys that make my play back experience very convenience.
with left and right arrow keys you can jump a couple of seconds backward and forward. I use this a lot. I'm not native English speaker. So when I don't understand something I use this to repeat it.
with up and down arrow keys you can control volume.
with enter key it goes to fullscreen mode and hitting again brings normal mode back.
I hope they add these as well. Then I surely use vlc as my only player.
I would suggest these as feedback if there is a feedback page.

Can I add myself to this request? This is really the only crap thing about VLC. If I want to play, say, the video clips in a folder sequentially, I am reduced to using poor old IrfanView, which is pretty clunky, but at least I only have to hit the spacebar or the right arrow, and there we are. I know it's not exactly laborious to go to File-Open Folder, etc., but it may be a long path to outlying external drives, and I wonder why I should have to do n clicks when 0 clicks should be needed and are the norm in crummier programs. Anyway, I don't do playlists. I want all my stuff to be available.
I thank you

I ask the dear programmers please add this feature this is REALLY missing. I love this player this is my #1 player but I need this feature very badly since I watch series very often and videos are almost all the times in a folder. Thanks for your kind work.

Its like mandella effect - I thought this used to work on the android tablet I used as mp3 player until I broke it and started using my android phone as mp3 player.
I like to use VLC player to play audio books while I commute (drive) to work. When the file I'm listening to ends it is only natural that the next file should play however, I have to fiddle with my phone to find the next file to play which means putting on my reading glasses and hope I select the right chapter (i always have to keep in the back of my mind where I am in the recording (sometimes 40 or 50 files for a good long book)) and pray I don't crash the car.
Granted, I can choose to play a folders' worth to get the "play next file" behavior but if VLC crashes-out due to some crazy OS update or whatnot I would dearly love to jump back in on file 27 and know that 28 will play right after.
Right now I am going to change my tune (no pun) about VLC and see if this option exists elsewhere. If this is a matter of an incorrect setting (as I have seen in another thread here) I'll be darned if I can discover what that setting might be.
Anyway, thanks for allowing me to poke the bear about this feature request that will only go away when addressed (or I go away - like I said...) seems like a "no-brainer" to me :/

This should be made as a plugin/option. The logic of it doesn't matter--this is a feature many are used to coming from Media player classic, and it's something we would like to have... in fact it's the only reason I don't always use VLC! I understand I can play the folder... it's just not the same... it doesn't have that MPC feel I guess. Upvote for creating this feature finally!

Hi,
Add me on the unnofficial long list of people waiting for this feature.
Just to summarise quickly:
- The feature is to add an option allowing to Auto play the next file in the same folder (in natural sort order)
- Playing the folder is not a good solution: open folder in vlc -> open playlist- > Select current video VS open current video
Yes it's just to save 3-4 clicks, but imagine using an OS with a search engine (Windows search bar / Mac OS Spotlight) and then using an OS than without this feature... That's what all people asking for this feature are feeling (I've a lot of non geek friends impressed by the autoplay feature of Netflix, so no it's not just a feature for nerdz).
Hope this feature is one day added and thanking all the developers for their hard work. Cheers.
Edit : After reading the other subjects, i found this extension: https://addons.videolan.org/content/show.php?content=150081 - Still need to manually click on "add next files to the playlist" every single time you open the player and still think this should be a built-in feature but still better than nothing.
Edit 2 : https://forum.videolan.org/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=124924 (actually all requests are ignored, the feature requests sub-forum should be removed).

Every video player on PLANET EARTH can read the next file in the folder ... WHY can this player not ???
Even if kmplayer is hot garbage I have to go back to it.. this is ridiculous ...

I created an account in this forum just to rant about this. People have been asking for this feature since 2012. EIGTH (8) YEARS PASSED AND STILL NO AUTOPLAY!!!
If you are a macOS user, just ditch VLC and go to another player, I use IINA for example, way better interface and performance.

Add me to that list also. Having just switched from MPC to VLC I'm really missing the 'play next file in folder" functionality. I don't use playlists, and sure, the 'open folder' thing works OK, but it's not quite as friendly.

Logged in for the first time in seven years to demand this feature. WAAAAY over due. Still using MPCHC because of this with vlc installed for whatever it can't play.
Even cdisplay had this functionality even back when geocities was the big host.
Someone please explain which little dev ego is offended by this idea such that it's still not even a plugin in the year of our lord 2021?
Seriously, WT actual F?
Disgraceful.

VLC also still can't see chapter breaks that MPC can. Nothing like a de facto monopoly's complacency (Yes, even in the open source space this is possible clearly) to halt improvements.

You can use MPV or plenty of other open-source alternatives if you don't like VLC. The monopoly is in your head. Besides, a monopoly implies a market. This is not a market, we are not selling things.
I don't think accusing volunteers of complacency is going to get anything done, for what it's worth.

I don't think anything is gonna get it done at all, clearly. And now we know why. You're more interested in making excuses than you are in making improvements.
You've got clout, and more than enough users. And you probably got a job out of this.
I see your post and I read "I've got enough friends, eff off, don't like it? Go get bob's discount player."
P.S. You just proved my point. You feel comfortable saying something like that expressly because you have a de facto monopoly. But whatever, it's not like the desires of your users matter to you.
Polite bowing and scraping and years of patience weren't getting it done, and honest complaint won't either apparently.
Lie to us all you want but I hope you're at least honest with yourself.

First, I didn't get, do not hold, and do not expect to ever get, a job out of this. Second, even if I did (and again, I don't), I would be working on what my employers needs/wants, not what some sufficient entitled non-paying user asks on the fora.

1. Your inability or refusal to parlay a career upgrade out of authoring arguably THE most popular and well known open source media player/converter on earth is your problem. Plus your forum sig is spamming a link. Who would even see that link without VLC? Seems like a job to me.
2. You released it to the public. I'm "entitled" to say whatever I please to whomever. I don't owe you anything, certainly not obsequious deference. You're the one acting spoiled by how yes men speak to you in your little clubhouse in a culture that coddles tech giants like bill gates and steve jobs and elon musk.
3. Again. YEARS of the polite approach got us all nothing. Not even a reply. Not until your fragile little ego was attacked did you deign to look in our direction. You imply that if we bow and scrape hat in hand then you'll help us out but clearly that's not the case in this instance. You're not gonna help us either way it would seem. So what exactly is there for anyone to lose?
4. Thank you for proving my point. You don't give a --please stay polite-- about us (when you should be grateful so many people enjoy your art) because we aren't paying you. If money is so damn important to you put a donate button on the toolbar.
I could go on, I've worked with coders for decades. I'm talking to a brick wall. I knew that from the beginning. But someone needs to tell you the truth for once.
