Thank you so much your newer simplistic design of icons. I really hope that this exact design or near similar makes it for the final of 0.9.

I like the green the cones for all audio files, bleu for video and the rest... I could get used to them easily on my desktop

Thanks. :D Maybe later CloudStalker will post the pngs for each icon, well some of them, and then they can be applied to the corresponding file types through the explorer options (Tools -> Folder Options -> File Types (tab) -> (select file type) Advanced -> Change Icon). CloudStalker has done this and it seems to work pretty well. :)

Thanks? CloudStalker updated the icons yet again (here), just used a higher quality icon as the base and improved the colors a bit, also added a new media type color for files like MU3 playlists and CUE sheets, ect. CloudStalker has a few questions though:
  • Can these "i-cones" be applied specifically to a codec and not just a file type? For instance: I made some for DVIX, XVID, MPEG-4, DX50, WMV, ect, but the file types supported on my PC are .avi, .mov, .mpg, ect. So if a video is encoded in XVID will it be able to use an "i-cone" for XVID instead of .avi? Codecs > Containers
  • Eh... where's the page that show all of the file types that VLC supports? can't find it.
  • What sizes should I create for the icons (as high as 239x239)?

File extensions are file extensions. So no xvid, h.264 etc. icons for Windows unless someone does Explorer integration support that snoops data (and has possibility to crash Explorer like Windows default video preview).

http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa511280.aspx
Vista supports 256x256 icons.

VLC_help is right as usual...

When all is done, update the nsi installer.

VLC_help is right as usual...
Just tell CloudStalker what file types are supported by vlc (wherever the current cone icon appears) and he'll try to implement the new ones in place of the current ones. :D
When all is done, update then nsi installer.
Will do, once CloudStalker figures out what it is and how to do it.

nsi install file should have the current used file extension associated with VLC, but there are more that would work (.xm, .mod, .s3m, .it etc.) but I am not sure if EVERY possible supported extension should be added.
http://nsis.sourceforge.net/VLC_media_player and !macro MacroAudioExtensions _action sections (I am not sure if this is up to date).

I apologize if there is already an answer to my question.

Whats going to be in the space under the current

Playlist
Media Library

part on the left of the interface? There is a very big box, and it only contains those 2 small entries.

Add a service discovery and you will see...
In the future, probably a list of playlists or smart folders

Tell CloudStalker what user thinks and hopefully we'll be able to get a new icon by next release or the release after next. :D
What's MU3? Shouldn't it be M3U? :?:

:D Wait for it... wait for it.... CloudStalker plans to make an update concerning the playlist but some things need to be changed first for his idea to make any sense. For instance: j-bonkers, me has 3 questions concerning the columns (ID Number/title/Duration, ect).

First, can we have an option to hide it/them completely from view? Really, do users become so confused that they can't tell that they're looking at the title, duration, ect and not something else? do we really need something to tell us this, or rather, to be displayed at all times? :P

Second, once users have arranged the columns to their liking, can we have an option to lock it? So basically, if me has the columns set up in this order: Title, Rating, Duration, then me can lock it so that if the player where resized or something the columns would expand/retract accordingly. CloudStalker hopes none of that sounded too confusing. :)

Lastly: automatically saving this arrangement so that the user doesn't have to redo these actions everytime the player is restarted.

Hehe. :) My playlist concept will look and work quite a bit differently from the current playlist, and, even if the concept does sound good initially to some users, it will probably be quite a dificult task for developers to implement it. It would definitely be too much to do in time for upcoming release, but instead... 0.9.1? Maybe? :)

CloudStalker: Hm, shall we update the first page with this concept CloudStalker?

CloudStalker: Sounds good to us. :)

If you want new features on Qt4 interface, then:

- Do one post for each feature
- Do short post with details and not long-blabla-fun posts
- Ask for small features now for 0.9.0.

Lol. "long-blabla-fun posts". :P

OK, me understand now. One post per request and shorter more descriptive comments, me guesses they are kinda long. :?

I'm guessing you don't like to be called j-bonkers then. :P I'll use it less often.

It is not that I don't like it, or find your posts not funny or whatever...

It is just that I have many stuffs to do, and to look after and looking in a 27pages threads for a request is NOT effective.

Ah well, maybe if CloudStalker adds more links to the main page? That is in fact what it is meant for.

The main problem I have is that CloudStalker doesn't have a computer half the time and so he resorts to the Wii (there is no copy & paste funtion). So when CloudStalker gets an idea that he wants to post he can't link it back to the main page, and forgets to do so when he does finally gain access to a computer.

Hm.... If CloudStalker starts a fund then people can send him money so that he can buy himself a laptop. :D For every dollar, Cloudstalker will make a semi-intelligent post, WITHOUT THE THIRD PERSON. Nah, not worth it. :P

(29) New VLC Icons

- Updated 07/02/08
  • Improved Icon Quality
  • Improved Icon Colors
  • Added MU3... media type color
vlc_fan-01 gave CloudStalker the great idea to redo the vlc icons with a document style for file types. Minus the actual document style, CloudStalker did manage to come up with something that he hopes will finally be the replacement to this: Image

CloudStalker took an already existing VLC icon, modified it a bit and added text. His first design was this one:

Image

the basic idea here is that the color will describe the media type (green: audio, blue: video, Yellow: DVDs, ect) and the text will describe the file type (MP3, DVIX, ect). Eventually this led to a more simplistic look that's not all too flashy but still looks pretty good, and most importantly it serves purpose of informing the user of the file type and also to replace "ughah" Image

Here are the most recent ones that CloudStalker modified and added to:

Image

Tell CloudStalker what user thinks and hopefully we'll be able to get a new icon by next release or the release after next. :D
I still want to see some filetype icons that have the text to each representative filetype as your perfect concept image. I abosutely love the colour coding between audio, video, disc icons :) I like the outline on the text also.

What about tilting the cone to one side to complete it that document icon look , I can post my example here later
