From what I've understood, the current HD DVD titles use VC-1. They are released in an unencrypted form. From http://ffmpeg.mplayerhq.hu/changelog.html I gather that VLC supports VC-1, so at least the raw video content in them should play.

It's probably illegal to find out in the US (DMCA), but I'm sure that it would be fine here (Holland) to buy one of those xbox 360 HD DVD players, buy a HD DVD movie, rip and decode your movie with that title-key memory lookup trick, and play your movie with VLC :)

Can we use this EVO plugin with Quicktime in any way to play the files maybe?
Different file format, from the looks of it.

I have already tried a lot of different .EVO files (from HD DVD discs) in VLC, they won't play!

No audio and video :( (they only work in PowerDVD, WinDVD in Windows).

So even if VLC already supports VC-1 it doesn't work.

If the support for VC-1 is there shouldn't it be a relatively easy fix to implement support for HD DVD's (doesn't have to be disc support, could be raw .evo file support to begin with).

Are these decrypted EVO files or copied straight from disc?

These are HD DVD rips, so decrypted .EVO files!

It works in VLC Player!

Now, to get those .EVO files working :)

Any response to this?

What is VLC doing wrong from reading this log?

Please... I'm dying to watch some 1080p .EVOB's on the Mac! :)

VLC doesn't have an EVO demux ... so it's useless to try.

Ok, thanks for the reply.

Do you know if VLC will get an EVO demux (soon)?

Hmm... VLC seems to playback .evo files with mpeg-2 video just fine... it's the vc-1 files that it has trouble with (For example, the decrypted extras from batman begins play fine.. but they're mepg-2.)

I know this is a little off topic but, where can I get the skin and the interface that’s used in this picture? It looks different from the one that have from VLC 0.8.6a. Is this look only for Mac OS X cause I use Windows.

Sorry again for getting off topic, just curious. :)

Ok, so the problem isn't with playing .EVO files generally, it's because of VLC's VC-1 implementation maybe?

I thought VLC supported VC-1 (but maybe not the kind used on HD DVD's)?

I think that's the default VLC interface for Mac.

m2ts files... still having issues.

How did you get VLC for OS X to play the m2ts files..? I pull them off of my Sony SR-1 and VLC crashes instantly. Any clues? I tested it with a m2t file and that works flawlessly... I'm so confused.

Sounds good, what have been done so far?

Can we play .EVO files and what about sound, E-AC3, TrueHD DTSHD etc.?

Great news!
We are waiting for VC1 compatibility in Mac OS X after some time.

Thanks for your great work!

:D
I'm getting the same thing here with The Matrix. The extras play just fine, but the actual movie does not. I will add, though, that I am getting no sound.

appleguru: do you get sound while playing your Batman Begins clip? I'm assuming not as your screenshot just shows the one stream for video and none for audio.

I'm extremely excited at the possibilities here.

With all the great features implemented in VLC I thought it was alrady possible, I am in full support of this measure I will be moving towards the next generation media to playback movies and content

I support, if it is possible :)
