Steps to always activate remember play-position:
  1. Using VLC 2.2.6 Umbrella or more recent, navigate to “Tools” menu > “Preferences” options
  2. Under ”Show settings” section, select “All” option
  3. Using the search field, type in “Continue playback?”. Without the quotes.
  4. Within the left side column, click on "Qt" row
  5. Within the right side column, next to “Continue playback?”, using the drop down menu, change the “Ask” to “Always” option.
  6. Click on “Save” button
  7. Done. The next time you play or open a media it will automatically start to resume playback from where you left off.
  8. Enjoy :D

None of this works in later versions like new 3.0.18. I just lose my playlist whenever VLC is closed so maybe this is the real issue. My playlist is still in "Media" but no longer in "PLaylist". Any ideas?
