Can you import the playback speed code from MPlayer?

in mplayer you can change the play speed by 10%
by clicking on [ or ]
this change the playback speed of the video and also of the audio
can you import this code to VLC?

I think that he means: "speed up video playback by a 1.1 factor, and implement some nice sound ressampling algo so that it doesn't sound too high pitched."

Some sort of speed scaling with pitch-correction on the audio would be very useful for watching recorded news broadcasts or shows that are otherwise informational rather than entertainment. It might be even be useful for the low-brow sitcoms which don't require much thought either.

Intervideo's WinDVD has that kind of feature and I found it very useful before I converted to Free software.

If this request is ever implemented, I would like to suggest two interfaces. One which you simply specify the speed-up (or slow-down) factor like 1.1x and another in which you specify the playing duration, like 45 minutes, and the software calculates the scaling factor (if it knows the duration of the recording).
