default languages - yes or no?

Postby mike.be » 17 Sep 2006 12:04

I was hoping that VLC could select default languages for audio and subtitles on films and was going to request it in the feature requests, but searched first and found that it had already been requested.

The user runs Mac OS X and the reply from a developer was that the feature was scheduled to be added to the next version. The problem is, the thread is from 2004 and, if the features was added, I can't find it anywhere.

Here is the thread: viewtopic.php?t=6151

Has it been added or not?

that's already available through the --sub-language and --audio-language options. I don't know where those are hidden in the prefs, but they're there :)

Many thanks. I found options you mentioned, though it was not easy :(

Unfortunately, I see problems with them. I live in Europe and have DVDs in many languages. If the language I list in the options you mention is not on the DVD, I get silence and/or no subtitles.

Is it possible to list multiple languages? So, for example: "English, Dutch, German"?

Thanks.

I don't think that this is possible ... it's worth a try though. (the option takes 2 or 3 letters language codes btw, not the full name)

Well, I am happy to say you seem to be wrong!!! It does work!!! I've tried it with two languages and it worked for both. The only thing is that I have to guess what the 2 or 3 correct letters are. Is there someplace where I can see the correct codes? Many thanks -- this is great!

They're the official language codes. Google can help you find references: http://www.unicode.org/onlinedat/languages.html (use the ISO code)
