GUI for audio streams

Postby anhlunnhaque » 08 Sep 2006 21:08

Hello,

Just a request to make VLC more streamline like other popular players....

It's going to be great if VLC has GUI buttons on top of the player next to the speaker for audio streams switcher and left channel / right channel. I know vlc has shortcut key for switching from audio streams...but it would be better if there's an actual button.

And I read in another thread that shortcut keys for left, right channels are in the process of implementing into the next version. So why not have a GUI button for that as well.

Maybe it's just me, but 90% of my video files does not uses the default audio. So a button for audio streams and a button for left / right channel would be wonderful !!!

Thanks

a button for audio streams switcher
You mean change the audio track ?
You can do it in the right click-menu, don't you ?

For left/right, yep, it is a good idea.

Yes, I am talking about "change the audio track " and yes, it can be done by right click. But I think it's really better and more convenient for users if it's part of the GUI on top. Because I think it's easy access if it's right there instead of right clicking and navigate to it.

Thanks

OK. I see...
You would like a spinbox to change it ?

hmm..I am not sure what's "spinbox" is...but yeah..any GUI on top next to the current speaker for a one-click to switch from audio 1 to audio 2, 3, 4 etc...
And as for the left, right channels I think vlc should still use the current "speaker" icon but instead when press once is to mute, which what vlc currently have now. I think it's best to have the same "speaker" and implement a multi-press function. Like when playing a file, the default is stereo mode. And when press once on the speaker "and/or shortcut key" it would switch to Left Channel. And when press twice on the same speaker "and/or shortcut key", it would switch to play on the Right Channel. And when press three times would be mute. Fourth time would loop back to Stereo Mode.

As for GUI icons for each time we press the speaker. It show two speakers facing left and right for Stereo Mode. And one speaker facing the left for Left Channel Mode. And vice versa for the Right Channel Mode. So when looking at the GUI icon we know which channel is playing.

I think it would very useful and very convenient for all users with all types of video with different audio streams/channels.

Hope this is a good idea for VLC...
Thanks
