How to disable the streaming audio receiver

Postby radin » 21 Aug 2006 18:22

Some countries assimilate a pc that has a broadband inet connection and mediaplaying software to a radio and/or TV receiver and apply radio and/or TV taxes accordingly.

I watch TV and pay TV tax but I do not listen to radio and do not want to pay radio tax so I need a mediaplayer that receives TV or videos (with sound) but does not receive radio or audio.

So I am replacing all the mediaplayers on my systems with VLC modified to disable "radio" reception.

Questions:

Could someone point me to the easiest place in the source code to make changes to disable the streaming audio receiver?

The audio part of video streams still needs to work, and local audio files still need to be playable.

The inverse (audio but no video receiver) may also interest people who are willing to pay radio tax but not TV tax.

(Feature request) How about implementing configure options for this?

Eh. options? Seriously, we cannot go and make options for every legal situation in every country...

Besides most formats are suited for both audio and video. What you are asking is nearly impossible.

Ok, configure options for this is probably not a good idea.

The post was originally in the "General" forum.

Actually. the functionality I would like to implement seems simple:

if ((it's coming from the internet) and (it does not have video content))
don't play it.

I can probably find a place to add this in the code, but first I want to make sure I can complete the osx ppc build.

Right now, running make from ~/vlc-0.8.5/extras/contrib, I get stuck on this error:

echo :pserver:anonymous@mplayerhq.hu:/cvsroot/ffmpeg A > ./ffmpeg.cvs
CVS_PASSFILE=./ffmpeg.cvs cvs -z3 -d :pserver:anonymous@mplayerhq.hu:/cvsroot/ffmpeg co ffmpeg
cvs [checkout aborted]: connect to mplayerhq.hu:2401 failed: Connection refused
make[2]: *** [ffmpeg] Error 1
make[1]: *** [src] Error 2
make: *** [all] Error 2

Any ideas? Should I post this on another VLC forum?

Today I am using vlc-trunk sources downloaded with svn, instead of sources from the gz tarball, and `make src` in extras/contrib no longer error-stops on ffmpeg, so I guess the problem described above is gone.

Sorry if I took up your time.

Sorry, I hadn't seen your post.
ffmpeg has move to SVN and building the contrib is a good idea to have all the main libs.
