Clock synchro redesign - isn't it about time this got fixed

This is already being tracked. Even though the Trax entry (#5 - should give an indicaton of how old this is) carries the "highest" priority, it keeps getting shoved back to "the next milestone". So far, it remains unassigned.

I am unable to listen to a local file while doing other work (eg composing this feature request) without experiencing a disruption in audio output.
