Populate ID3 tags with metadata when converting audio

Postby ChrisInChip » 22 Dec 2019 14:18

I would like to request that VLC retains metadata when converting audio formats in particular WMA to MP3. There is a popular requirement to convert multiple files (sometimes large numbers) from WMA to MP3. Manually editing in the metadata is impractical and a large number of MP3 files without the basic tags is not useful.

Bump.
This is really pretty basic. Please try to support.

I had never used VLC for audio before and this tag issue made me think there was a 'bug'.
I started to report this as a bug but found it is a "feature". Alas, I was forced to use another product to accomplish the task I was working on.

Thanks

I don't think they do any actual updates to the software - at least as far as making the audio portion more user functional and friendly.

There are so many easy fixes to improve the user experience just by combining screens/steps, and/or adding existing options, but none have been made. At least as far as the audio portion of this. I don't use the video file portion.

And YES, I've donated.

I was hoping to use VLC to convert audio file formats. However, I was disappointed that none of the audio tags / metadata (eg title, artist, etc) is included with the converted files. So I will have to find a system that does this. Pity.
